With production expected to start soon on the feature adaptation of Divergent and the female lead already confirmed to be Shailene Woodley, fans of Veronica Roth’s young adult novel are anxiously awaiting word on confirmation for the male lead. Right now, it’s looking like Alex Pettyfer, Jeremy Irvine. and Lucas Till are going head-to-head.
The movie is confirmed to shoot in Chicago, which is where the story takes place; or rather, the story takes place in a futuristic/dystopian version of Chicago, where people are broken into five factions determined by their way of life. The story follows Woodley’s character Tris, as she chooses her faction and begins the training process in the hopes of securing a spot amongst them.
Variety posted word that Pettyfer, Irvine, and Till are all reading for the male lead later this week. They don’t mention the character by name, but I’m assuming they’re referring to Four, Tris’ instructor during her faction training, featured pretty prominently throughout the book.
Of the three guys in competition for the role, Pettyfer is probably the best known, with recent credits that include Magic Mike, In Time, Beastly, and I Am Number Four. I’m not sure I picture him as Four, to be honest, with darker hair and a few face piercings, it might be interesting to see him take on the part of Eric, one of the leaders of Tris’ faction.
As for Till, he could well have the edge on the other two actors, as apparently he’s already tested for the part. Among Till’s credits are Battle Los Angeles and X-Men: First Class, in which he played Havok. He’s got a distinctive look which sets him apart from the other two, in my opinion.
British thespian Irvine’s credits include War Horse and the role of Pip in Mike Newell‘s Great Expectations. He’s yet to wow audiences as an action-oriented heartthrob, as far as my knowledge of that sort of thing goes. But he’s certainly pretty enough for the part. Could he cut it as Divergent‘s knife-throwing radical?

With her new movie “Magic Mike” having just made its way into theaters, Alex Pettyfer garnered himself a little added exposure by covering the August 2012 of Men’s Health UK magazine.
The 22-year-old actor looked ready to rumble as he threw a punch for the front page while dishing about everything from his heroes to his future goals.
Set to hit newsstands on Monday, July 2, highlights from Mr Pettyfer’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Men’s Health UK!
On his future goals in the entertainment industry:
“I’m very ambitious. I live in reality but I have dreams I want to fulfill–I want to be a director and I’ve already started my own production company. But I also have a measure of success that I keep to myself. It’s something very personal to me.”
On his heroes:
“My dad’s one my biggest heroes. I also think Paul Newman’s an inspiration. I know a lot of people say that but I love that he’s a great role model and a humanitarian. I admire people who don’t necessarily want to change the world, but try to make it a better environment.”
On gaining weight for ‘Magic Mike’:
“I put on a bit of weight for this film. I started off at 169lb and went up to 196lb. They told me I was too big, so in the end I had to take it back down to 185lb. When you eat and train as a sportsman I found it very enjoyable. But at the same time, it was hard, particularly at the start and I still remember not wanting to be in the gym. That’s why I don’t want to train at the moment.”

Robert Pattinson has gone from virtual unknown to global phenomenon in the last three years. We’re not sure if this meteoric rise is thanks to his role as a brooding vampire in Twilight or his God-like features, but we do know some guys who are hot on Rob’s heels.

Ever since James Bond first crashed onto our shores in some tricked out experimental car/boat/plane hybrid thing, Hollywood has been nuts for hip young British thespians. They’re everywhere! They’re in our vampire movies (make some noise, Twi-Hards), our wizard movies (pour one out for Harry, Ron and Hermoine), our rom-coms (hats off to trailblazer Hugh Grant), and our TV shows about British monarchy (OK, that one makes sense). We simply can’t get enough. It’s been said before, but it’s like their hotness is magnified by that accent.
This Saturday the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is hosting a 42 Brits To Watch gala in Los Angeles. The BAFTA president is HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (that’s Prince William and Kate Middleton to the rest of us), so these guys aren’t messing around. In honor of the big event, we’ve decided to compile our own list of 40 beautiful Brits that we’ve got our eye on; from upcoming Spider-Man Andrew Garfield, to action hunk Alex Pettyfer and dream queen Juno Temple. And of course we have our franchise favorites from the Twilight and Harry Potter sagas. Check out the gallery below to see the Anglos we’re expecting big things from!
