Review: Magic Mike now available on Blu-Ray Combo pack and DVD
October 29th, 2012 | filed in: "Magic Mike"

Magic Mike is now available on Blu-ray Combo pack, DVD and for download and here is a review that I did for the film. Please keep in mind that this is just my views on it and I’m sorry if they offend anyone in advance.

Let’s face it when we first heard about Magic Mike and the casting, we were excited. What made the icing on the cake was that it was about strippers. Suddenly I felt the need to rejoice that were finally getting a movie that might be akin to the late movie Showgirls. How could anyone go wrong with stripping? Somehow at the end of watching the movie, I wanted more. I felt a little cheated with the storyline over all and was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more plot. It was wonderful to see Alex Pettyfer grace the screen along side Channing Tatum and that one guy from True Blood that I won’t bother trying to spell because I would butcher it. Let’s not forget Matthew Bomber either. The dance scenes alone were wonderful, I rather enjoyed them and the slight plot behind the film itself.

We follow the career of Mike (Tatum) as he introduces the new kid Adam (Pettyfer) to the scene of stripping. He teaches him how to pick up women, party and make easy money. There’s even a bit of romance when Mike falls for Adam’s sister. There is a plot to the movie ladies and gentleman! One of the funniest characters in the movie is Dallas (McConaughey) who runs the club. The story over all is lacking but again, most women were going to see it for the dance scenes in the first place and those that say they didn’t? Are lying. You didn’t go for the plot. The movie was good don’t get me wrong, I just wanted more than what I got.

Let’s get onto the special features of this combo pack shall we?

First we have the extended dance scenes. They truly in all honesty, better than the scenes you’ll find in the feature film itself. It’s a shame that they weren’t in the film in the first place, they weren’t that bad compared to some sex scenes we see in other movies! It’s only available on the blu-ray copy and not the normal dvd collection though, which leaves those that don’t have the money to fork over for a blu-ray player pretty much screwed. I would have liked to see this at least on the normal dvd version as well.

Second we get the dance play mode which plays all the dance scenes back to back, which if that’s all you were watching the movie for? Is a great feature to pop the dvd in for. And last but not least, the “Backstage On Magic Mike” feature. I found it quite endearing to hear most of the actors talk about how they had no idea what they were getting themselves into when they agreed to this movie. Channing of course who had a small short lived career as a stripper made it sound like it wasn’t a big deal at all. I wonder if he gives his wife Jenna some private lapdances.

Overall the movie was decent. The dances do for the most part live up to the hype and two main cast members are endearing while Matt Bomber’s character is slightly disturbing for me to watch. Is it worth the retail price? I would have waited until it went on sale to be honest. I’m not saying this to be unkind about the movie, but I walked away with very few memories besides Alex Pettyfer donning a tiara while drunk at the bar and a very nice army men scene that made me want to get up and say the pledge of allegiance. Not one of the best films of 2012. You can view more information about the dvd and watch some videos right below here.
