Alex Pettyfer is a 20-year-old actor who does not want to go the typical teen idol route. Instead he aspires to have a career similar to Paul Newman’s.

In a recent interview, Pettyfer revealed that he was inspired to get into acting by watching films such as “Carlito’s Way” and “Cool Hand Luke”.

Despite growing up in a small town near London, Pettyfer got into show business at an early age. He began modelling. At the age of 13, he won the title role in the British TV movie “Tom Brown’s Schooldays”. Then he played the title hero in the action thriller “Stormbreaker” which we saw in local theatres in August 2006. Though Pettyfer won some positive notices for the role, the film did not score any box office success.

In “I Am Number Four”, Pettyfer plays a young alien who escaped the destruction of his home planet. A band of evil aliens is hunting down the last of his species, one by one. In an attempt to hide, he takes on an alias and tries to integrate into a regular high school, where he meets Sarah (Dianna Agron), an aspiring photographer who immediately captures his heart. “I Am Number Four” opened this week in local theatres.

Next film shall be “Beastly”, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast from the male perspective. He stars with Vanessa Hudgens. “Beastly” opens next month in Malta.
